Undergraduate students are almost always eligible for Stafford loans through financial aid. All you need to do is simply fill out a financial aid form before the deadline of that school year and you will be notified if you qualify. These loans do not look at your credit and can be taken without a cosigner. The loans are generally given by semester so anew form will need to be filled out for each academic year. There is generally a set amount granted for full-time and part-time attendance. This allows for the student to have the opportunity to get a loan regardless of their status. You do however need to stay in good academic standing in order to be eligible for future loans and to comply with the regulations. If you are trying to attain a loan for post-graduate study, you need to look into private loans and special lending companies for educational loans. Many provide loans for students with poor credit and no cosigner, just at a higher interest rate to pay back. Once again check with your financial aid office for more information. This may be an only option for some and it is worth it to get a good education!
